Place of Incarnation of Maa Sita Ji

According to the description of Brihad Vishnu Purana, King Janaka's plough-pulling-sacrifice-land is the place of incarnation of Goddess Sita Ji which was situated at a distance of 3 yojansi.e. 24 miles west of his Rajnagar. On the banks of Lakshmana (presently Lakhandei) river, the ritual and editing of that yagya is told. As a result of plow-traction-yajna, Bhumi-Suta incarnated on Sita Dhara Dham, along with heavy clouds in the sky, torrential rains started, which removed the misery of the people, but the problem of protecting the newborn baby Sita. King Janak got an idea of protecting her from the rain and wat. In fact, there was a need to present a madhi (shed, cottage, hut). By the order of the king, a shanty was quickly prepared at that place and Sita Sayatna was kept inside it. It is said that the place where a shanty was built to protect Sita Ji from the rain, the place was first named Sitamadai, later Sitamahi and then Sitamarhi. Nearby is Punaura village where sage Pundrik used to reside during the Ramayana period.

The place where Sitamarhi is situated, there was a dense forest during the Ramayana period. The first ancestor of the Mahant of Janaki place was a dispassionate Mahatma and a perfect man. According to the description of "Vrihat Vishnu Purana", measuring from Janakpur Nepal, the present place of Janaki's place was described as the plough-pulling-land of King Janak. Later, he took his seat for penance on the banks of the river Lakshmana under a tree at the same holy place. Long after this, devotees built a Matha there, which according to the Guru tradition, has continued to the beginning under a succession of disciples of that period. In Sitamarhi, twice every year in the name of Bhumija Janaki, a huge cattle fair is held on the occasion of Ram Navami and second time on the occasion of Vivah Panchami, due to which the fame of Janaki place there has increased even more.

It is mentioned in the Balakand of Sri Ramcharitmanas that "When the princes grew up, sage Vishwamitra asked King Dasharatha to take Sri Rama and Sri Lakshmana with him to protect the hermitage from demons. Rama killed demons like Tadka and Subahu and Marichi He was sent across the sea by a fruitless arrow. On the other hand, Sri Lakshman killed the entire army of demons. On receiving the invitation of King Janak for Dhanushayagya, Vishwamitra came to his city Mithila (Janakpur) with Shri Ram and Sri Lakshman. On the way Shri Ram saved Ahilya, the wife of Gautam Muni, this place is situated in the name of Ahilya-Sthan, 40 km from Sitamarhi. Swayamvar of Sitaji, also known as Janaki, the daughter of King Janak, was also organized in Mithila, where Shriram married Sitaji by breaking Shivdhanush according to Janak's promise. Along with the marriage of Shriram and Sitaji, Guru Vashishtha got Bharatji married to Mandavi, Lakshmanji to Urmila and Shatrughanji to Shrutkirti."
